Michael Taylor will speak on the Catholic understanding of Creation and how the
world gets it wrong. The Church has something to say about nature as it reclaims
our understanding of Genesis while preaching an ecological ethic that guides all
people towards Jesus Christ. The world is incapable of seeing the absolute beauty
of Creation for what it is until it discovers its Creator. Because of the
interconnectedness of all creation, the Pope’s Laudato Si points out that we are in
the midst of a complex crisis that is both social and environmental.
Dr. Taylor is a Teaching fellow and Dean of Students at Thomas Moore College.
He received his BA in Biology and Environmental Studies from Bowdoin
College. After graduation he spent 5 years in Peru and Chile as a missionary with
the Catholic Society of Apostolic Life. He got another B.A. from the Pontifical
Gregorian University in Rome, then to Madrid for a Master’s degree in Bioethics.
He then moved to Granada, Spain, where he worked for the Archdiocese as the
Executive Secretary of the Laudato Si’ Institute, meanwhile completing his
doctoral studies.
