Bishop O’Connell is the Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of Boston. In this role he assists Archbishop Sean O’Malley in the executive functions of governing the Archdiocese, including overseeing the central
administration offices and ministries. Ordained in 1990, Bishop Mark has served the Archdiocese in many roles, most recently as Episcopal Vicar for the North Region and Pastor of St. Theresa of Lisieux in North Reading. He was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Boston in August
2016 and has also served on the faculty at both St. John Seminary and Pope St.
John XXIII Seminary.
